Our Communities are diverse in more ways than one. We have cultural diversity, language diversity, social-economic diversity, and neuro and physical diversity. Some of these differences are apparent and some are not. As Muslims our role is to be ambassadors of this beautiful inclusive religion and this starts with our embassies: our masjids and community centers.
This document was created because we need to do a better job of embracing members of our community, especially members with special needs. These needs can be visible or non-visible and physical or mental. Our goals are to educate, inform and bring awareness to ways in which we can accommodate for different abilities in our Masjids/Community Centers, Weekend Islamic Schools and Classrooms and through our services as volunteers. Please use this as a starting point to train community leaders, volunteers and Sunday school teachers.
